Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups self-raising flour or all-purpose flour
  • 2.5 teaspoons baking powder only if using all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup Greek yogurt
  • 1 pinch sea salt
  • egg wash or oil spray for glaze (optional)
  • homemade everything bagel seasoning for topping (optional)

Equipment

  • Oven
  • mixing bowl
  • Baking tray
  • parchment paper

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F / 175°C.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the self-raising flour with a pinch of salt and the Greek yogurt. If using all-purpose flour, add the baking powder. Mix until it forms a big ball.
  3. Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead until smooth.
  4. If the dough is too wet or sticky, sprinkle with more flour as needed.
  5. Roll the dough into a ball, cut into 4 equal pieces, and shape each piece into a ball.
  6. Poke a hole in the middle of each ball and gently stretch it to form a bagel shape.
  7. Place the bagels on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
  8. Optionally, brush each bagel with egg wash or oil spray and sprinkle with seasoning, pressing it in gently.
  9. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Let the bagels rest on a cooling rack for 10-15 minutes before slicing.
