Ingredients

Onion Rings
  • 2 large sweet onions, peeled and sliced 1/2-inch thick
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder, divided
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt, divided
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup whole-wheat flour
  • ¾ cup buttermilk, divided
  • 3 cups panko breadcrumbs
  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh chives
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley

Equipment

  • Air Fryer

Method

Cooking Steps
  1. Preheat air fryer to 375°F for 3 minutes and coat the fryer basket with cooking spray.
  2. Separate onion slices into rings and toss with onion powder, 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder, and 1/4 teaspoon salt in a large bowl.
  3. Whisk eggs, flour, and 1/2 cup buttermilk in a shallow dish.
  4. Place panko in another shallow dish.
  5. Dip each onion ring in the egg mixture, allowing excess to drip off, then dredge in panko to coat completely; place in the fryer basket.
  6. Repeat until the basket is full and coat the onion rings with cooking spray.
  7. Cook, flipping once, until crispy, about 8 minutes. Repeat with the remaining onion rings in batches as needed.
  8. Meanwhile, whisk mayonnaise, chives, parsley, remaining 1/4 cup buttermilk, and remaining 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder in a small bowl.
  9. Sprinkle the onion rings with the remaining 1/4 teaspoon salt and serve with the dipping sauce.
