Ingredients
  

Meat
  • 1 pound ground beef can substitute with turkey or sausage
Vegetables
  • 1 medium onion diced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 medium bell pepper diced
  • 1 medium carrot diced
Canned Goods
  • 28 ounces crushed tomatoes
  • 6 ounces tomato paste
  • 15 ounces canned tomato sauce
Seasonings
  • 1 tablespoon dried oregano
  • 1 tablespoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon sugar to balance acidity
  • 1 teaspoon salt to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper to taste
Liquid
  • 1 cup water or beef broth for more flavor

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef until fully cooked. Drain excess fat.
  2. Add the diced onion, garlic, bell pepper, and carrot to the skillet and sauté for about 5 minutes until softened.
Cooking
  1. Transfer the meat and vegetable mixture to the crockpot.
  2. Add crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, oregano, basil, sugar, salt, pepper, and water. Stir to combine.
  3. Cover and cook on low for 4 hours or on high for 2 hours.
  4. Stir occasionally and adjust seasoning if necessary before serving.
