Step-by-Step Cooking Walkthrough
- Form the Patties: In a large bowl, gently combine ground beef, panko breadcrumbs, beaten egg, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper until just incorporated. Shape into 6 equal oval patties, about 3/4-inch thick.
- Sear (Pro Step): Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Sear patties for 2 to 3 minutes per side until golden brown (they do not need to cook through). Transfer seared patties to a plate.
- Layer Aromatics in Slow Cooker: Place sliced yellow onions and sliced mushrooms in the bottom of a 6-quart slow cooker. Lay the seared beef patties on top of the onions and mushrooms.
- Whisk Gravy: In a bowl, whisk together beef broth, brown gravy packets, Worcestershire sauce, and tomato paste until completely smooth. Pour evenly over the patties and mushrooms.
- Slow Cook: Cover and cook on LOW for 4 to 5 hours (or on HIGH for 2.5 to 3 hours) until patties are melt-in-your-mouth tender and the gravy is rich and velvety.
- Serve: Ladle patties and generous spoonfuls of thick mushroom onion gravy over fluffy garlic mashed potatoes. Garnish with chopped parsley and serve piping hot!
