  • 1 wheel Brie 8 ounces
  • All-purpose flour for work surface
  • 1 log goat cheese 4 ounces, at room temperature
  • Milk or heavy cream if needed for goat cheese
Garnishes and Extras
  • 2 slices of pimento-stuffed green olives for eyes
  • 1 package string cheese
  • 6 pretzel sticks
  • 2 capers for eyes on breadsticks
  • 4 thinly sliced prosciutto
  • black sesame seeds for garnish
Accompaniments
  • breadsticks
  • deviled eggs either store-bought or homemade
  • red serrano chili cut into devil horns
  • long thin crackers
  • pimento-stuffed green olives as additional tidbits
  • marcona almonds as additional tidbits

Equipment

  • Mini cast-iron skillet
  • Parching knife
  • Offset spatula

Method

Mummy's Baked Brie Assembly
  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F. On a lightly floured work surface, unfold the puff pastry. Cut it into 1/2- to 1-inch strips. Wrap the strips around the Brie haphazardly to create the mummy look. Place it in a mini-cast-iron skillet. Tuck the sliced olives underneath a few strips to create eyes. Bake until golden brown, approximately 20 to 25 minutes.
  2. Wrap each breadstick with one to two slices of prosciutto. Add two capers toward one end of the wrapped breadstick to create eyes.
  3. Prepare your favorite deviled egg recipe. Cut devil horns from the red serrano chili using a paring knife. Insert the horns into the top yolk portion of each egg.
  4. Slice the bottom third to half of each string cheese log with a paring knife to create broom bristles. Insert a pretzel stick into the opposite end for the handle.
  5. Using a small offset spatula, smear a small amount of goat cheese down the length of a cracker (stir in milk or heavy cream if the goat cheese is too thick to spread). Add two sesame seed eyes.
  6. Arrange all assembled elements on a cutting board, alongside additional crackers, pimento-stuffed green olives, and marcona almonds.
