Ingredients
  

Dough
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil for dough
  • 3/4 cup warm water
Frying
  • 4 cups vegetable oil for frying
Serving
  • 1/2 cup honey for drizzling

Method
 

Prepare the Dough
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Mix well.
  2. Add the vegetable oil and warm water to the dry ingredients. Mix until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth.
  4. Cover the dough with a cloth and let it rest for 20 minutes.
Fry the Sopaipillas
  1. Heat the vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thick and cut into squares or triangles.
  3. Fry the dough pieces in the hot oil until they puff up and turn golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  4. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
Serve
  1. Serve warm with a drizzle of honey or syrup.
