  • 1 cube chicken bouillon
  • 2 stalks celery diced
  • 3 carrots carrots diced
  • 1 whole onion peeled but left whole
  • 1 pound chicken breasts boneless skinless
  • 2 cups milk
  • 3 cups flour more for dusting
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 ⅓ cups buttermilk

  • mixing bowl
  • rolling pin

Method

  1. Add the chicken stock, bouillon, chicken breast, onion, carrots, and celery to a large pot over medium-high heat.

  3. Remove the chicken and set aside. Discard the onion.
  4. Combine the flour, baking powder, salt, and buttermilk in a large bowl. Stir until a dough forms.
  5. If the dough is too dry, add a little more buttermilk; if it is too wet, add a little more flour.
  6. Dust the dough heavily with more flour.
  7. Roll the dough out thinly and slice it into squares.

  9. Cover and let the dumplings cook for another 20 minutes to let the stock thicken.
  10. Meanwhile, shred the chicken.
